I’m glad to see more and more groups are going on about giving their music away for free….. when we started doing this 3 years ago the people around us so didn’t get it and the record companies hated us. I felt it alienated us from a lot of them, as if we advocated some evil economic heresy that would bring down rock and roll…
But, but… ultimately this industry of ours is in meltdown, reeling under the new digital revolution that won’t be looking back. I find it fascinating watching how the record companies and ruling bodies of our industry fight to come up with ways to stop what is happening…..take your customers to court anybody…er??? Reallly great move.
Now I believe they are slowly wising up and there are still some smart caring people out there running labels (they are the ones that still mention passion for music and songs above bottom line figures) and they’ll figure out how to live and work in the new order and where they’ll fit in. Watch out for the ones now trying to con us with the viral marketing campaigns promoting ‘the peoples internet phenomenom’.
We live in such exciting times – I’ve said it before – that we certainly didn’t invent this revolution, but that I definitely want to be part of it…… and more importantly, I don’t think we’ve seen the REAL revolutionaries yet – they’re probably aged 14 in a bedroom somewhere in the world with a guitar and a laptop, forming a band that will blow us all away in ways we haven’t even dreamt of yet..
and we’ll never see them coming
I can’t wait to be astounded ….
